FAQ
Why should I recycle my e-waste?
E-waste is one on the fastest growing sectors of the waste stream. Some e-waste contains toxic materials and so it should be collected separately to prevent it from causing pollution. All e-waste has recoverable substances (metals, plastics, etc) so rather than being discarded, these substances should be recovered to take the pressure off the mining of finite resources. Generally speaking, recycling is less energy intensive than using new materials and is therefore a better for the environment.
What is e-waste?
E-waste is any item that relates to electrical, electronic, and computer technology.
What is in it for me?
As well as possibly adding to your income and being environmentally, ethical recycling is something that gives your organisation a marketing edge in terms of green credentials.
Where does the e-waste go?
The collected e-waste will be sorted and processed for sale as recycled material, reusable material, or refurbished products. Some processing of the recycled material in done in New Zealand but much if it is sent overseas since our market is too small to make it economically viable. The refurbished products are sold in New Zealand.
Will my old computer data be securely destroyed?
Any data, regardless of whether it is digital or paper based information, that is received from your organisation will be erased or destroyed but we recommend that you do this prior to placing items in the e-crate. See our data security page for more information.
